CALIFORNIA - Studio game developer, THQ Australia reportedly will lay off 18 employees. Game publisher from California it will stop and shut down its operations, so that the number of workers will have impact on the decision.
Successful game publishers produced several popular titles, such as professional wrestling WWE, as well as other games like saints Row series, Darksiders, Red Faction's Metro and confirmed its decision to close its operations. This is done because the company will launch the strategy, organizational change and move away from an affiliate label program.
"THQ confirms that the company is making changes to the organization of publishing in Australia. Consistent with the company's strategy to focus on the company's wholly-owned IP and away from affiliate label program, we have been evaluating how best to focus more on the product lineup to the market in the region, "said an official statement from THQ, as reported Gamesindustry, Wednesday (11/10/2012).
Furthermore, the source said, after a thorough analysis, the decision was made to move from direct sales model to a distributor model. This indicates that the issuer Melbourne office will be closed. Thus, approximately 18 employees will be impacted from the company's decision.
THQ Offices in Australia previously had reduced 14 workers in January 2012. THQ also shut down Blue Tongue, office located in Brisbane. In addition, the office in Japan, Britain, Warrington and developer of Homefront, Kaos in eighteen months.
That said, the company founded in 1989, also suffered successive losses in the financial turuy in the previous quarter. The Company expects to consolidate and restore the condition.
