Pakistan Earthquake Raises New Island

An earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale that hit Pakistan last Sept. 24 led to the emergence of a new island in the Arabian Sea coastline. The new island appeared approximately 600 meters from the beach.

New Island due to the earthquake that has a width of 30 meters and a height of approximately 6-12 meters of the ground surface. Initial alleged formation of the island, according to the researchers, due to the storm that hit. Nevertheless, the research team has been busy finding out new island formation is more specific.

But based on the facts on the ground suggest the island is not a landslide, but a mountain of mud. "The description of the island, and the distance to the epicenter prove this is the mud volcano," said Michael Manga, a geologist from the University of California, as quoted by Softpedia, Friday (09/27/2013).

The existence of some other mud mountains not far from the new island that was only reinforced mud volcano. Several other mountains have existed since 2001 ago when there was an earthquake in Pakistan. Therefore, researchers predict this is the same thing as it did in 2001.

As quoted by LiveScience, things that cause the appearance of mud volcanoes because of the powerful vibration that makes the existing ground surface beneath the sea water pushed to the surface.
