Windows Phone Successfully Enchanting European Markets
LONDON - The high sales of cheap smartphones like the Lumia 520 Windows Phone is claimed as one of the reasons Microsoft 's mobile OS has managed to survive in the European market . Even the Windows Phone market share successfully increased over the last three months .
Reported by Neowin , Tuesday ( 01/10/2013 ) , research firm Kantar World Panel claims that during the three months ending in August 2013 , the Windows Phone market rose to an average of 9.2 percent in the five major countries in the European region .
Additionally , the market share in France and the UK also rose to 10.8 percent and 12 percent for each country . This is the first Windows Phone to get double-digit percentages in the two major markets .
"The wave of new Windows Phone growth driven by the expansion of Nokia in the low and mid market with the Lumia 520 and 620 handsets , " said Strategic Insight Director Dominic Sunnebo Kantar Worldpanel ComTech .
Both the Lumia models , said Sunnebo , managed to lure users aged 16-24 years and 35-49 years , the two key groups who seek a balance of price and functionality of smartphones .
But unfortunately , Kantar claims that during the same period the market share of Windows Phone in the United States ( U.S. ) rose only 2.6 percent from last year to 3 percent this year . Whereas in the Chinese market , Windows Phone only has a market share of 2.1 percent .
